Working with Dr. Wilkins
Tim takes a collaborative, thoughtful, and practical approach to helping clients understand themselves and make meaningful changes. He specializes in OCD, anxiety, and couples counseling, and also provides career counseling and psychological assessment. He tailors treatment to each client’s needs, drawing from cognitive-behavioral, emotionally focused, existential, and psychodynamic approaches.
OCD
Tim uses exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help clients change their relationship with intrusive thoughts and resist the urge to engage in compulsions. Treatment focuses on developing greater tolerance for uncertainty and returning to meaningful activities that OCD has restricted.
Anxiety
Tim helps clients understand the patterns that keep anxiety going, including avoidance, overthinking, and efforts to control uncertainty. Together, they work on responding differently to anxious thoughts, approaching feared situations, and managing physical symptoms. The goal is to help clients participate more fully in life, even when anxiety shows up.
Couples Counseling
Tim helps couples understand the recurring patterns that leave them feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or caught in the same arguments. Drawing from emotionally focused therapy, he helps partners recognize the emotions and needs beneath their reactions, communicate more openly, and respond to each other with greater understanding. Couples work may address conflict, emotional distance, intimacy, trust, and the challenges of navigating major life transitions.
Career Counseling
Tim works with clients who feel unfulfilled in their work, are considering a career change, or need help choosing a direction. He combines exploration of interests, strengths, values, and practical circumstances with structured career assessments when helpful. His background in engineering and psychology informs his understanding of career transitions and the challenges of balancing meaningful work with financial and family responsibilities. Together, clients and Tim develop realistic options and concrete next steps.
Across his work, Tim helps clients clarify what matters to them and build a life that reflects their values. He offers both in-person and online counseling.
