Insurance for counseling and therapy
We accept several insurance plans for counseling and psychotherapy services. Please contact us to make sure we accept your insurance prior to scheduling an intake appointment.
How does the first counseling session work?
Once you reach out to us to schedule a counseling intake, we will send you a link to fill out our intake paperwork prior to coming in. The entire process at Lansing Counseling is paperless. We can provide a detailed invoice to you at any time if you need receipts for counseling services. The first counseling session is typically used to help understand what you are struggling with, as well as gathering relevant background information. It’s helpful for you to be able to answer the question: “Why am I coming in for a counseling appointment today?”
When you arrive for your counseling appointment, scan our QR code in the waiting room to get started. Your therapist will be notified and will come get you from the waiting room.
Does counseling work?
Extensive research has shown that counseling and therapy done with a licensed counselor, licensed clinical social worker, or psychologist, helps people to improve their mental health. Often, results have out-performed medication. At Lansing Counseling, we used evidence-based practices such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Interpersonal Process Therapy. These modalities rely heavily on developing a real and healthy relationship between the client and the therapist. If you have more questions about whether counseling works, please reach out to us with questions.
How long does counseling take to work?
Each counseling session at Lansing Counseling is a little under an hour. The course of treatment can be as little as 6 sessions, but many clients find that they enjoy therapy and continue in therapy for a long time, even years. Your counselor will periodically check-in with you about your progress and will make sure that counseling treatment is necessary before continuing. Once a counselor notices sufficient improvement, they will inform you so that you don’t stay in therapy longer than needed.
